Product Overview

The 70T Ladle Refining Furnace (LRF) is a secondary refining unit designed for medium-to-large scale steel mills, electric arc furnace (EAF) production lines, and continuous casting systems. Positioned after the primary furnace (EAF or BOF), it is primarily used for thermal compensation (reheating), precise composition adjustment, deoxidation, desulfurization, inclusion removal, and temperature homogenization.

In modern steelmaking workflows, the 70-ton LRF serves as a critical link between primary melting and continuous casting, playing a vital role in enhancing molten steel quality stability and ensuring a continuous production rhythm.

Working Principle

The 70T LRF employs a three-phase electric arc heating system, where electrodes create a submerged arc between the molten steel and the refining slag to provide effective thermal compensation. Simultaneously, an argon stirring system at the bottom of the ladle induces a stable circulating flow within the melt. The entire refining process is conducted under a controlled atmosphere and specialized refining slag to ensure consistent and reliable steel quality.

Technical Features

Enhanced Thermal Compensation for Large-Tonnage Melts

  • Arc heating power is precisely matched to the 70-ton molten steel capacity.
  • Effectively compensates for heat loss during transportation and idle periods.
  • Meets the stringent temperature window requirements for continuous casting.

High-Efficiency Argon Stirring System

  • Bottom-blown argon promotes global circulation of the molten steel.
  • Improves homogenization of temperature and chemical composition.
  • Facilitates the aggregation, flotation, and removal of non-metallic inclusions.

Precise Alloying and Composition Control

  • Supports batch-wise and quantitative addition of alloy materials.
  • Reduces alloy burn-off (oxidation) rates.
  • Enhances composition control precision and minimizes fluctuations.

Optimized for Continuous Production Rhythms

  • Matches the production cycles (takt time) of EAFs and continuous casters.
  • Provides a production buffer to improve overall line stability.
  • Helps maximize capacity utilization.

Product Advantages

Significant Improvement in Steel Quality Consistency

- By performing refining, reheating, stirring, and composition trimming, the 70T LRF effectively minimizes temperature deviations and composition inhomogeneities, reducing the risk of defects in continuous casting and improving finished product stability.

Optimization of Overall Steelmaking Process Efficiency

- By separating the refining stage from the primary furnace, the EAF/BOF can focus on high-efficiency melting while the LRF focuses on quality control. This enhances the operational efficiency of the entire production line.

Stable and Controllable Energy Efficiency and Environmental Performance

- Targeted thermal compensation prevents over-heating of the steel. Argon stirring increases metallurgical reaction efficiency, reducing unnecessary energy loss. Can be integrated with dedusting and fume treatment systems.
